The estate was previously known as\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMischief \u0026amp; Mayhem\u003c\/strong\u003e, established by Michael and Fiona Ragg. Alexandra, an Australian winemaker who has worked with\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJane Eyre and Benjamin Leroux\u003c\/strong\u003e, among others, chose to rename the project\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan class=\"il\"\u003eAlussia\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e, one of the ancient names for Aloxe-Corton. A new identity that above all signals a new way of working, more personal and focused on wines that are finer, livelier, and closer to their terroirs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eOne hectare of vines and fully organic practices\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan class=\"il\"\u003eAlussia\u003c\/span\u003e operates both as an\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eestate and a micro-négoce\u003c\/strong\u003e. The estate owns just\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eone hectare of vines\u003c\/strong\u003e, spread across\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAloxe-Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pommard, and Puligny-Montrachet\u003c\/strong\u003e, including some very fine Premier Cru plots. All are\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ecertified organic\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eand the soils are worked with a\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ehorse-drawn plow\u003c\/strong\u003e. For the trading side of the business, the philosophy remains the same: grapes are purchased only from growers who are themselves certified organic. It is a way to build a broader range while maintaining true consistency in grape quality and vineyard work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eLess oak, less sulfur, more room for the wine\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSince the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e2024\u003c\/strong\u003e vintage, Alexandra has been evolving the estate's style with a lighter approach to\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSO₂ and new oak\u003c\/strong\u003e. For the whites, maturation is split between\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eceramic vessels and oak\u003c\/strong\u003e, with ceramic playing an increasingly important role in preserving freshness and avoiding over-marking the wines. The reds are aged in\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e228-liter barrels\u003c\/strong\u003e, again with a pursuit of finesse over power. The 2024s thus mark a real departure from previous vintages: Burgundies that are more refined, more vibrant, and sometimes slightly reductive in their youth, with less artifice and more space left for the fruit and terroir.
