Chandon de Briailles

The Chandon de Briailles estate is a family story. It has been in the same family since 1834, and today belongs to Count and Countess Aymard-Claude de Nicolay. Since 2001, the estate has been managed by François de Nicolay and his sister Claude. Together, they share the same passion: wine and vines. They share the tasks, but all key decisions such as those concerning winemaking are taken together. If François manages the vineyard team and marketing, Claude ensures monitoring in the cellar and export. The Domaine is located in Savigny and its surface area extends over 13.7 hectares. It produces around 50,000 bottles per year, and employs around ten people. François and Claude introduced biodynamics in 2005 out of conviction and taste.
Quite paradoxically, it is through several employees or service providers of the Domaine that we discover the wines. Christian, other half with Morgane de Dandelion, was in fact cellar master at Chandon de Briailles for several years. There he found the tools and means to carry out his experiments, and to refine numerous details: the wines will no longer see a pump for example, they will be moved by gravity or pushed with gas to limit oxygenation and not don't rush them.
The wines of Chandon de Briailles have a very fine expression, vinified and aged in the purest Burgundian tradition, they express themselves with great freshness and reflect their climate and their vintage. We find in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay climats with names that leave us dreaming: Volnay “Les Caillerets”, Corton-Charlemagne, Savigny-les-Beaune “Les Lavières”...
