Jean-Yves Péron
Jean-Yves Péron, after having trained with Thierry Allemand and Bruno Schuller, chose in 2004 to return to his native lands, Savoie, to create his own estate. At the beginning, the vines were located in Conflans, near Albertville, while the cellar was located in Chevaline, near Lake Annecy, in the basement of the family home more than 30 km away! Today, Jean-Yves Péron and his team benefit from a functional cellar, built in an ecological manner, close to the vines, with a semi-buried cellar dug into the rock.
Jean-Yves Péron's estate is made up of the main Savoyard grape varieties: Mondeuse for the reds, and for the whites, Jacquère, Altesse, Bergeron (which is in fact Savoyard Roussanne), as well as Gamay and Persian. The vineyard extends over terraces between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, on mica schist soil. The absence of synthetic products in the vineyard is a priority, preferring treatments from biodynamics, such as horsetail and nettle manure.
In the cellar, Jean Yves Péron's work is non-interventionist, coming as close as possible to natural winemaking. He carries out long macerations for the whites and produces deep and distinguished reds, each of his wines having a strong personality. It also offers a range called "i Vicini" composed of grapes gleaned mainly in Piedmont from biodynamic producer friends offering a unique interpretation of grape varieties such as Barbera and Grignolino. After fermentation, the wines are aged in 500 liter barrels for approximately 12 months, then assembled in vats for an additional 4 months.
Since 2011, Jean-Yves has also developed a trading activity, expanding his range by purchasing organic grapes from other winegrowers.
The estate's vintages, such as "Le Champ Levat" (red from Mondeuse) and "La Grande Journe" (white from Altesse), are praised for their magnificence and strong personality. The “Le Pas de l’Ours” vintage is distinguished by its aromas of citrus and red fruits, balanced by a refreshing acidity. Jean-Yves Péron's philosophy, combined with environmentally friendly winemaking practices, is reflected in his exceptional wines, thus leaving his mark on the Savoie wine scene.
