Alexandre Jouveaux

Originally from Saint-Chinian (this is important for what follows), Alexandre Jouveaux nevertheless settled in the south of Burgundy, in Uchizy. We met him during one of our many Burgundian tours, via Pierre Mang. The new winegrower has in fact recovered some vines formerly cultivated by Alexandre Jouveaux.

Alexandre Jouveaux has been a winemaker for 24 years now and this experience has allowed him over time to break away from certain behaviors in the vineyard and in the cellar. He gradually stops working the soil, drastically reduces the number of treatments, accepts sometimes starving yields. Alexandre is one of those natural wine growers (Kagami, Saurigny, Desplats, etc.) who pursues his ideas to the end. In the cellar, you have to remember your childhood in Saint-Chinian, the former land of Rancio and oxidative natural sweet wines, to understand where it is going. Alexandre works mainly in large tuns, he matures his wines for many years, without using tools. Fermentations can last several years, a nightmare for oenologists... This working method, very original for the Burgundian region, gives life to unique wines, which you have to know how to wait for. Alexandre usually says that you need at least as much bottle time as aging time. Some vintages spend 7 years in barrels, we’ll let you do the math…!
Among the winemaker's timeless wines: Combarnier, Le Mont, O17.
