Damien Bureau

Damien Bureau, known as Bubu, was born in Anjou and works 3 hectares of vines in the Côteaux de Layon appellation area, in his native region.
He built his experience as a winemaker in several wine-growing regions of France such as Burgundy, Roussillon, Jura and the Loire. It was in particular thanks to Babass and Patrick Desplats that he fell in love with natural wine. In 2006, he decided to officially settle in La Loire to produce natural wines. He particularly loves his region, and especially the diversity that Chenin offers: Bubu can produce fruit-based, digestible wines as well as rich, sweet wines.
Damien's estate is based on shale soil with a mild and humid climate. It has all the typical Loire grape varieties, with a large majority of Chenin which currently represents 1.9 hectares on four plots. Damien Bureau also has a pretty plot of Grolleau and Gamay and a smaller plot of Pineau d'Aunis, four grape varieties that he cherishes and likes to work with.
The vines are worked organically and all the harvests are done by hand. He does everything himself and that is why he wants to keep the estate “on a human scale”; to continue working alone. The cultivation of vines is without pesticides or fertilizers. Concerning winemaking, Damien Bureau produces wines without any addition of inputs or any filtration. He ages his wines in fiber vats except for the sweet wines which are removed in oak barrels. Its objective is to produce red wines that are more fruity, very digestible, and white wines that are fresh and delicious. We suggest you taste Damien's wines which are very sincere, without too much exuberance, just like him!
