Domaine Labet

The history of Domaine Labet is a family affair whose roots go back to Alain Labet, a winegrower who has worked in Rotalier since the 1970s. A pioneer of oaked wines in the Jura, an artisan of the plant and a fervent advocate of massal selections, Alain retired in 2013 and passed the estate on to his three children, Julien, Charline and Romain. Combining the family estate with the few hectares that Julien cultivated and vinified under his own name, the estate now covers a total of 14 hectares, still in Rotalier, in the southern part of the Côtes du Jura appellation. Under the management of Alain and Josie Labet, the estate was already managed in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way, but it was under the impetus of Julien that Domaine Labet decided to take this approach even further. They decided to (re)work the soil by hand, favouring natural grass cover and renouncing the use of pesticides. Influenced by Julien's experiences in Burgundy, they adopt a parcel-by-parcel approach, paying particular attention to small plots, each of which expresses a unique terroir, location and/or grape variety. In the cellar, the aim is to let nature and the terroir express themselves fully, with spontaneous fermentation and no inputs. The wines are matured on their lees in barrels, without fining and often without filtrationDomaine Labet offers an impressive range of over 18 parcel-based cuvées, each bearing the name of the locality from which it comes. These include mainly Chardonnay and Savagnin forthe whites, both toasted and unoaked, as well as Ploussard, Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Gamay for the reds. If the Domaine Labet has carved out a place for itself among the symbols of the Jura vineyards, it has done so in its own way: imbued with the rural dimension of the winegrowing profession. Julien, Charline and Romain have inherited this relationship with life from their parents. And so, on the land of Rotalier, the Labet family continues to produce natural wines imbued with this harmony between nature and tradition, which are true jewels of the Jura terroir, capturing the soul of this exceptional wine-growing region.
