The end of the world
Edouard Laffitte is clearly an emblematic winemaker of the Roussillon Natural Wine scene. He has been living in this region for over ten years. After working for several years at the Estézargues cooperative cellar in Gard, and alongside renowned winegrowers like Jean-François Nicq from Domaine des Foulards Rouges, he felt the desire to embark on a solo wine adventure. natural.
To do this, he had to create his own estate, despite his lack of agricultural training. Chance worked out when Loïc Roure of Domaine du Possible acquired a former cooperative cellar in Lansac, in the Roussillon region, and suggested that Edouard settle there. However, the vines still had to be found, and it was in a region nicknamed "Jajakistan" by the two friends, located at altitude with a rather northern exposure, that Edouard chose to set up. The landscape is characterized by abundant stones, appreciable quantities of vines, and of course, the Mediterranean sun. The name of the domain, “Le Bout du Monde”, was self-evident, in homage to this relative isolation.
The year 2005 marked Edouard's first vintage, but it was accompanied by difficulties linked to the vinification of wines without inputs. It was necessary to re-adapt viticultural practices to these arid lands, after decades of intensive weeding. However, thanks to patience, determination, experience and strong support, Edouard managed to overcome these obstacles.
The Domaine du Bout du Monde today extends over more than 7 hectares, spread over three communes, with varied soils such as gneiss, schists and granite arenas. The harvest is carried out manually, the vinification favors carbonic maceration and low temperatures, and the wines are never filtered. The result of more than ten years of hard work is a range of vibrant, energetic vintages, including L'Échappée Belle, Brave Margot, La Luce, Tam-Tam, Hop-là and Avec le Temps, which reflect the unique character of the terroir and Edouard's passion for natural wines. Domaine du Bout du Monde thus embodies the innovative spirit and success of this new generation of Roussillon winegrowers.
