The 13 Moons

The Domaine des 13 Lunes is located in the heights of the Chartreuse natural park, on the edge of the forest, which offers a unique setting for the creation of mountain wines. Nestled at an altitude of 500 meters, the vines do not seem very high, yet the majestic Mont Granier which overlooks them extends more than 1500 meters higher. And the latter plays an essential role in climate regulation. He can decide whether the region will be subjected to cold or heat, protected or exposed to storms.
The estate, managed by Sylvain Liotard, is mainly characterized by local grape varieties made from Jacquère, Altesse, Mondeuse, Gamay and Velteliner. Here all the vines are cultivated organically and biodynamically. The terroir, formed by a major landslide in the 13th century, is rich in limestone of different sizes, mixed with silt and clay in varied proportions. The vines are planted in tight rows, with a density of 7,500 to 10,000 vines. per hectare.
Working in biodynamics involves particular attention to soils, disease prevention, the use of herbal decoctions and herbal teas, while intervening as little as possible during winemaking. Traditional practices, such as the application of horn dung and horn silica, minimal doses of copper, a little sulfur, herbal teas and the use of indigenous yeasts, are favored by Sylvain and his team.
