👨🏼‍🌾Red Wine made by Yann Durieux .

With Nuits-Saint-Georges, Yann Durieux takes on a legendary terroir. The nose unfolds black fruits, fine spices, and wet stone. The palate is dense, powerful, but never heavy, thanks to a vibrant tension. The firm but elegant tannins give the wine body. The long and racy finish marks a noble red, made for aging and depth.

Yann Durieux is one of Burgundy's most unique and sought-after winemakers. After spending more than 10 years at Prieuré Roch, he decided to branch out on his own and settle in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits region, where he cultivates around fifteen hectares using organic and biodynamic methods. His work, imbued with a radically natural philosophy, focuses on an intuitive and hands-off approach to wine.
In the vineyard, no herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used, but meticulous care is given to the soil and natural cycles. The grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness, often late, in order to capture all the energy and concentration of the terroir. In the cellar, vinification is done without additives or added sulfur, with long fermentations and patient aging, often in tuns or concrete vats, to preserve the integrity of the fruit. His Pinot Noirs are distinguished by their finesse and depth, offering vibrant, taut juices bursting with purity. His Chardonnays, equally remarkable, are marked by a sharp minerality and a chiseled texture. He also excels with other grape varieties such as Aligoté, which under his influence reveals an unsuspected complexity.
Yann Durieux's wines are rare, prized by wine lovers worldwide for their purity, energy, and incredible drinkability. They embody a free, unadorned Burgundy deeply rooted in life, where each bottle tells a unique story, that of a passionate and uncompromising winemaker in his quest for authenticity.

A superb boutique offering some very fine natural wines that are off the beaten track. One drawback: the bottles are very expensive overall: it would be nice to enrich the range with affordable/pleasurable wines.

Several specifications correspond to these denominations. Here's an overview of the different organic, biodynamic and natural specifications:Organic specifications (AB label) prohibit all use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyard and cellar. It does, however, allow for a few oenological crutches during vinification. Sulfites, for example, are tolerated up to 100 mg/L for red wines and 150 mg/L for whites. In biodynamic viticulture (Demeter or Biodyvin label), the winemaker not only works without synthetic chemicals, but also takes into account the lunar calendar for all the operations he carries out. He also uses biodynamic preparations (fermented horn dung, silica, plant teas, etc.) to strengthen the vines. Overall, the winegrower seeks to integrate vine cultivation into a global environment. Sulphites can be as low as 70 mg/L for reds and 90 mg/L for whites. In Vin Méthode Nature, the specifications specify the use of organic grapes, fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts (as in biodynamic viticulture). Natural wines receive no inputs during vinification or ageing. Only minimal doses of SO2 are permitted (30 mg/L maximum), and must be specified by the winemaker. No brutal filtration or alteration techniques are permitted. We also find the Vins SAINS designation, which aims to ban the use of sulfites altogether.

Our aim is to offer you wines made by artisans, from small-scale estates, often family-run. That's why we take the time to travel the length and breadth of France, from vineyard to vineyard, in search of the natural wines that make us tick. We're particularly keen to help you discover the new winemakers of tomorrow, who are working tirelessly to bring us magnificent wines. We want to showcase them, give them greater, clearer visibility, and accompany them all the way to you!
