Domaine Castéra
Domaine Castéra , the inspired balance between the Pyrenees and the ocean
From the foothills of Béarn to sustainable agriculture
Anchored to Monein , the Castera Estate today extends over approximately 10 hectares of vineyards in the name Jurançon , between the Pyrenees and the Atlantic , a unique geographical feature that profoundly influences its wines. The family Lihour , spanning five generations since 1885, manages a business focused on Organic and biodynamic farming , with a careful, plot-by-plot approach. The estate cultivates the following grape varieties: Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu , on varied soils mixing clay, silica and puddingstone , in southwest exposures conducive to balanced maturity.
Living wines, sensitive winemaking, and plot identities
The grape harvest has been completed. By hand , the pressing is slow, without crushing, and the fermentations use indigenous yeasts . The estate avoids excessive intervention: the cultures are raised in suitable containers — stainless steel tanks, demi-muids, stoneware eggs, old barrels — to preserve the fruit's energy and the terroir's freshness. Each of the cuvées (Jurançon Sec, Tauzy, Memória, etc.) is a showcase of the living wine : they evoke silky textures, mineral notes and subtle elegance, with a fine compromise between maturity and tension — a true reflection of the unique Béarn foothills.
