LUXEMBOURG, A DISCREET VINEYARD WITH A BORDER CHARACTER

The Luxembourg vineyards stretch for about fifty kilometers along the Moselle River , forming a narrow wine-growing strip between the Grand Duchy and Germany. At just over 1,200 hectares , it is a micro-region on a European scale, but its modest size belies a strong identity. Here, the vines face the river, benefiting from its temperature-regulating effects and rooted in a long-standing winemaking tradition deeply connected to Moselle culture.

THE LUXEMBOURG MOSELLE, BETWEEN RIVER AND LIMESTONE HILLS

The climate is semi-continental , characterized by mild summers, often sunny autumns, and cold winters. The Moselle River plays a vital role in moderating temperature variations. The soils are predominantly composed of shell limestone (muschelkalk) , marl, and sometimes clay, giving the wines a straightforward, precise, and often saline structure. The well-exposed slopes allow for gradual ripening, which is conducive to aromatic expression without excess.

RIESLING, PINOT AND CRÉMANT, A STRONG WHITE IDENTITY

Luxembourg's vineyards are decidedly focused on white grape varieties . Riesling holds a central place, producing taut, precise wines with a distinct minerality. Pinot Gris , Pinot Blanc , Auxerrois , and Elbling , a historic Moselle grape, are also grown. Red wines exist, notably those made from Pinot Noir , but remain in the minority.

Crémant de Luxembourg represents an important part of the production: made according to the traditional method, it has largely contributed to the international recognition of the vineyard, thanks to fine bubbles and a marked freshness.

A NEW GENERATION COMMITTED TO LIFE

For the past fifteen years or so, Luxembourg has seen the emergence of a generation of winemakers committed to more respectful practices: organic farming , biodynamic experimentation, reduced inputs in the cellar, and a quest for a more precise expression of the terroir. This dynamic brings greater depth and personality to the wines, which gain in complexity and complexity.

Luxembourg's vineyards remain discreet, yet they captivate with their purity , natural freshness , and sense of balance. A unique region, where Germanic rigor meets a more Latin sensibility, and where the Moselle River shapes wines that are straightforward, elegant, and deeply rooted in their river landscape.
