Montelupo Albese, a Statement in the Langhe

DWNL — acronym for “Drink Wines, not Labels” — is a project founded in 2019 by Alessandro Salvano, originally from Montelupo Albese, on the fringes of the major appellations of the Langhe. A less recognized territory, often overlooked, but which here becomes the starting point of a true declaration of intent. With dwnl, Salvano does not seek to fit into established frameworks, but rather to question them. The project is built as an assumed provocation, a way to put wine back at the center, far from appellation hierarchies and imposed conventions.

A Free, Input-Free Approach, Focused on Wine

From the outset, the philosophy is clear: break the rules, experiment, and offer a reading of wine centered on the material and the gesture. The vinifications are carried out with spontaneous fermentations, using indigenous yeasts, often in whole clusters, without fining or filtration, and without chemical inputs. Alessandro Salvano works with traditional grape varieties such as Nebbiolo or Dolcetto, as well as international varieties like Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, always with the desire to show that quality can emerge outside the most recognized areas.

OUTSIDE, a Manifest Cuvée

This approach finds its most complete expression in the OUTSIDE cuvée, a 100% Nebbiolo produced on the heights of Montelupo Albese, vinified according to standards similar to Barolo, but deliberately outside the appellation. More than a wine, OUTSIDE is a manifesto: a way to go beyond boundaries, to break free from expectations, and to offer a freer, more direct, almost more playful reading of Nebbiolo.

A Minimalist Aesthetic for a Radical Project

Even the labels extend this vision: minimalist, refined, almost silent. At dwnl, everything converges towards the same idea: to make wine without filters, without unnecessary embellishments, leaving room for interpretation. A project that questions as much as it seduces, and that fully fits into a generation of winemakers for whom wine is above all a statement, free and committed.
