Champagne Simon Rion
Champagne Simon Rion, the confidential expression of the Petite Montagne de Reims
Four Generations of Winemakers in Courmas
Located in Courmas, in the heart of the Petite Montagne de Reims, Champagne Simon Rion is a family estate passed down for four generations. In 2007, Simon took over the 2.15 hectares of the family vineyard from his father, Pascal Rion, with the desire to evolve the estate while remaining faithful to its terroir. The plots, grouped in the sole village of Courmas, are planted with the three historic Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay.
Precise Viticulture to Reveal the Terroir
In the vineyard, Simon Rion prioritizes work that respects the soil and the environment. The plots are entirely mechanically maintained, without herbicides since 2017, and the estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC). Courmas's clay-limestone soils give his Champagnes a beautiful blend of depth, roundness, and freshness.
Terroir Champagnes, Patiently Aged
In the cellar, Simon Rion favors a low-intervention approach to preserve the identity of each wine. Aging extends for several years on lees, with some cuvées incorporating a significant proportion of reserve wines from a perpetual reserve, while dosages remain voluntarily measured. The result is vinous, precise, and balanced Champagnes that sincerely express the personality of this more confidential part of the Montagne de Reims.
