Alexander Koppitsch
Alexander & Maria Koppitsch, the freedom of Burgenland
Neusiedl am See, 500 years of family history by the lake
The Koppitsch estate has been a family property for nearly 500 years, located in Neusiedl am See, in Burgenland, east of the Leitha Mountains, on the shores of Lake Neusiedl. In 2011, Alexander and Maria Koppitsch took over the 5.5 hectares of the family estate with the desire to continue the legacy while asserting a more personal vision of wine.
The landscape consists of gentle hills and limestone-rich soils, which give the wines a clear tension and a very marked mineral structure. This geology, combined with the regulating influence of the lake, creates a unique microclimate, conducive to frank maturities without losing freshness.
Organic, biodynamic and zero input
Like his father and grandfather before him, Alexander adds no inputs to his wines. The estate is cultivated using organic and biodynamic agriculture, according to the principles of Rudolf Steiner, with particular attention paid to soil vitality and the natural balance of the vines.
Fermentations occur spontaneously, élevages are conducted without artifice, and the wines seek neither correction nor standardization. At Koppitsch, the objective is clear: to produce lively, vibrant, and legible wines, deeply rooted in the limestone landscape of Burgenland.
The style is free, sometimes playful, but always structured by this mineral backbone typical of Neusiedl am See. A sincere interpretation of Austria, between family tradition and contemporary energy.
