Spain is one of the largest vineyards in the world, with nearly 950,000 hectares, but also one of the most diverse. From the arid plateaus of Castile to the Atlantic influences of Galicia, passing through the reliefs of Catalonia or the continental areas of Rioja, the country offers a mosaic of landscapes and climates that shape profoundly unique wines. Long associated with powerful and oaky styles, Spain is now experiencing a true renaissance, driven by a new generation of winemakers committed to more environmentally friendly practices.

EXTREME CLIMATES, DISTINCTIVE TERROIRS

The Spanish vineyard is characterized by great climatic diversity: hot and dry Mediterranean, continental with marked variations, or cooler and wetter Atlantic. This variety allows for a richness of expression rarely equaled. The soils are just as multiple: schist in Priorat, granite in Galicia, limestone in Castile, red clay in Rioja... Each region imprints a strong signature on the wines, often marked by a combination of solar ripeness and structuring freshness.

INDIGENOUS GRAPE VARIETIES AT THE HEART OF IDENTITY

Spain primarily relies on its indigenous grape varieties, which constitute the soul of the vineyard. Tempranillo dominates in many regions, offering structured and elegant wines. Garnacha (Grenache), very present, brings generosity and fruit. Alongside them, we find Monastrell, Mencía, Bobal, and Listán Negro in the islands.

For white wines, grape varieties such as Albariño, Godello, Xarel·lo, or Verdejo are helping to redefine the Spanish style, with more taut, precise wines, often marked by a beautiful saline energy.

A NEW GENERATION, BETWEEN TRADITION AND EXPERIMENTATION

Over the past fifteen years, a new wave of winemakers has profoundly transformed the Spanish landscape. Work in organic or biodynamic agriculture, a return to old vines, low-intervention winemaking, rediscovery of forgotten grape varieties: everything converges towards a finer reading of the terroir.

These wines, often lighter, more digestible, sometimes without additives, break with historical standards to offer freer and more vibrant profiles. This energy can be found in wines from Priorat, Sierra de Gredos, Galicia, or inland Andalusia.
