Closa Populus

Closa Populus, the first wines of Marion Letournel and Simon Dandois

A new adventure together

Closa Populus is the new project of Marion Letournel and Simon Dandois, based in Varrains. Marion moved to the Loire at the end of 2024, after training in viticulture and oenology, and the estate officially came into being in 2025. For this first vintage, they are working 3 hectares of vines, planted with Chenin and Cabernet Franc. A brand-new estate, with small quantities and a desire to build things gradually.

Three hectares cultivated organically in Varrains

The vines are farmed using organic agriculture, with a lot of manual work and particular attention paid to soil life and biodiversity. The grapes are harvested by hand. Marion and Simon are primarily looking to support their plots rather than impose a recipe on them, with the estate's two grape varieties as a starting point.

First wines made without additives

In the cellar, Closa Populus gets straight to the point: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and vinification without additives. The wines are aged notably in several types of oak barrels, on the lees, before unfined, unfiltered, and unsulfured bottlings of the first cuvées. Maison Rouge, made from 100% Chenin, and Pâture, made from 100% Cabernet Franc, are already setting the tone, while Télesphore brings together the two grape varieties in equal parts. Living, unadulterated wines, for a project that is only in its first vintage but one whose future you will clearly want to follow.
