Simon Bousquet
Simon Bousquet, Volcanic Auvergne in a Free and Contemporary Interpretation
Corent, Macerations, and the Energy of Volcanic Soils
Based in Auvergne, around the terroirs of Corent Sud, Simon Bousquet is part of this new generation of winemakers who reinterpret local grape varieties with a very free approach to wine. His work is based on a sensitive reading of the volcanic terroirs of Puy-de-Dôme, where Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay find a particularly vibrant expression, carried by the natural freshness of the basaltic and limestone soils.
The estate works small plots with a clearly non-interventionist philosophy: manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentations, precise maceration work, and aging predominantly in fiber tanks, to preserve the fruit's brilliance and the wines' natural tension as much as possible.
Lively, Hybrid, and Profoundly Mobile Wines
Simon Bousquet's cuvées deliberately blur the classic boundaries between styles and colors. Co-fermentations, Chardonnay macerations, blends of Gamay and Pinot Noir: each wine primarily seeks movement, energy, and drinkability rather than a technical demonstration.
His wines have a very identifiable signature: fluid textures, frank acidity, profiles often marked by citrus, fresh red fruits, and that slight smoky touch specific to the volcanic terroirs of Auvergne. The tannins remain fine, the extractions gentle, and the whole always retains much freshness and relief.
A New Voice for Living Wine in Auvergne
Through cuvées like Koumi, Stella, Elohim, and Haceldama, Simon Bousquet is gradually building a personal universe, where wine becomes a field of experimentation as much as a faithful reflection of the vintage and the place.
