Champagne Legrand-Latour
Thibault Legrand, a geological reading of the Marne Valley
Fleury-la-Rivière, biodynamic farming and distinctive champagnes
Thibault Legrand is based in Fleury-la-Rivière , in the heart of the Marne Valley . He is the son of a winemaker ; his father, Patrice Legrand, took over the family estate. Until 2017 , his father divided his time between the vineyards and his magnificent shell-shaped wine cellar project , which he was excavating day after day. The grapes were then taken to the cooperative winery .
When Thibault returned to the estate , he first decided to convert the 4 hectares to biodynamic principles , a process that culminated in certification in 2019. The vineyard is largely dominated by Pinot Meunier , complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay . Thanks to this meticulous work , Thibault can finally vinify his own grapes and create distinctive Champagnes .
His cuvées are made from plots of land with geologically identical soils . Thus, the cuvées are named after geological periods : Lutetian , Ypresian , etc. The wines are made without additives and are aged in an underground cellar , also dug by Thibault's father. A unique feature : the champagnes are bottled using must from the following vintage .
