Domaine Fumey-Chatelain

Domaine Fumey-Chatelain: a family saga, living wines in Arbois

Four decades of commitment and a renewal orchestrated by Marin

Founded in the mid -1980s by Raphaël Fumey and Adeline Chatelain , the estate began modestly with only 56 ares of vines , initially sold to the cooperative winery. In 1991 , a devastating frost destroyed 95% of the vineyard , pushing the couple to embark on their first winemaking . In 1999 , they acquired a ruined farmhouse in Montigny-lès-Arsures , which they transformed into a family winery . Today, their 17 hectares of vines have been gradually converted to organic viticulture , and since 2020 , their son Marin Fumey , trained in Australia , New Zealand and South Africa , has instilled a more chiseled and natural approach to the estate.

Terroirs of Arbois, natural vinification and recognition

The estate covers Arbois terroirs , with varied soils such as Lias and Trias marl , marl-limestone , favorable to red grape varieties ( Poulsard , Trousseau , Pinot Noir ) and white ( Chardonnay , Savagnin ). In the cellar, Marin favors natural vinification : manual harvesting , indigenous yeasts , gentle vatting , followed by aging in tuns , concrete vats , barrels , with a strict reduction of sulfur . Result: wines with brilliant profiles - Savagnin ouillé fresh and saline, Savagnin under complex veil , Pinot Noir and Trousseau nervous and fruity, Vin Jaune long in the mouth - regularly noted by the RVF , highlighting the finesse , precision and natural expression of the Jura terroir .
