Bastian Wolber

A winemaker straddling German rigor and Burgundian expression

Although Bastian Wolber was born in Germany , it was in France that he honed his skills. Working with, among others, Jean-Marc Dreyer , Rudolf and Rita Trossen , Jean-Yves Bizot , and Jean-François Ganevat , Bastian was able to observe, understand, and experiment. Afterward, he decided to return to Germany to make his own wine at his brother's Wasenhaus estate.

We meet Bastian Wolber during a joint tasting at the winery which he shares with Jon Purcell (Vin Noé) , Dandelion and Chris Santini .
It was in this cellar in Auxey-Duresses , on a winter evening in 2020, that we discovered his first wines: Gamay , Riesling , Chardonnay and Pinot Noir .
It was love at first sight, and we quickly became certain that we had found one of the most promising winemakers of the young Burgundian guard.

A demanding vision, from Volnay to the Côte Chalonnaise

He later moved to Volnay so he could work as he saw fit.
Since 2022, Bastian has dedicated himself full-time to his winemaking business and has gradually acquired some Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards , both through leasing and négociant agreements. He thus offers a wide range of wines from the 2022 vintage, sourced from vineyards in the Côte de Nuits , the Côte Chalonnaise , and other beautiful areas of Burgundy .

Precise, balanced, and inspired living wines

Bastian 's work combines rigor and a certain classicism .
Trained at the Bizot and Ganevat schools, the wines are aged entirely in barrels that have previously held several vintages . The reds are made using whole cluster fermentation, much to our delight. The wines are precise , balanced , and harmonious . The level that Bastian has quickly achieved impresses us and convinces us of his initial impressions.
