Clos Saint Joseph
An exceptional vineyard in the Alpes-Maritimes
A family estate rooted in Villars-sur-Var
Clos Saint-Joseph is a family-run wine estate located in Villars-sur-Var , in the Alpes-Maritimes , about 40 km northeast of Nice . This estate is unique in being the only one in the region to benefit from the Côtes de Provence appellation . Founded in 1925 by Joseph , the grandfather of the current owner Roch Sassi , the estate covers six hectares of vines and produces approximately 20,000 bottles of wine per year .
The vineyard is planted mainly with Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds, and Rolle, Sémillon, Ugni Blanc and Clairette for the whites. The vines are located at an altitude of 300 meters , benefiting from a semi-montane microclimate with cold winters, rainy springs and hot summers, ideal conditions for producing very high quality wines .
Viticulture in harmony with nature
The estate practices environmentally friendly viticulture , with a philosophy oriented towards biodynamics . The wines of Clos Saint-Joseph are distinguished by their freshness and minerality . Often, unique peppery notes are found, in particular thanks to the very rocky marl soils which accumulate heat.
Roch Sassi and Constance Malengé , who currently run the estate, continue the family tradition while incorporating modern viticulture and winemaking practices .
