Born in Hiroshima in 1977, Osamu Uchida spent his childhood between his parents' city center grocery store and his athletics classes. Arriving in Tokyo, he worked as a night deliveryman and met a colleague, a German wine enthusiast, who introduced him to the art of tasting. Little by little, from bottle to bottle, a crazy dream will grow in Osamu: one day, he will make wine. His memories of school trips come back to him and France seems ideal to him. He decided to leave in 1999, with €10,000 in his pocket and his choice was Bordeaux as his starting point. He then made more than 300 visits to wine estates, from Bordeaux to Banyuls, via Côte-Rôtie. Osamu Uchida tastes, imbibes, learns... and it was in 2001 that he enrolled in bac viti-oeno then at DUAD, these training courses allowing him to carry out internships in different vineyards and therefore to learn further and always. At the end of these studies, in 2006, he returned to Japan with the role of wine importer, but his ambition to become a winemaker, of natural wines, remained there, anchored. It was in 2010 that he returned to the Bordeaux region as a tourist guide and bought 60 acres of vines in a region that everyone recommended against him: the Médoc. And he managed to find his place there, thanks among other things to the Pauillac athletics club, where he runs with all the “crowned heads” of the surrounding grands crus, but above all thanks to his marked identity, precisely breaking out of the shackles of these great wines. Today Osamu works almost 3 ha in organic and biodynamic farming, seeks to develop agroforestry there and although his production is minimal, almost confidential, the wines are immense! With great finesse, great precision and dazzling fruit, Osamu Uchida has succeeded in dusting off this Médoc terroir with talent and elegance.
