Domaine Giacometti
Domaine Giacometti: Corsica between scrubland, sea, and granite
Patrimonio, family legacy, and the rebirth of a vineyard
The Domaine Giacometti is located in Casta, in the Agriates desert, between Saint-Florent and Patrimonio, in northern Corsica. The Giacometti family has cultivated vines there for several generations, but the estate took a new turn in the 1980s when brothers Paul, Toussaint, and Joseph Giacometti decided to completely restructure the vineyard and rehabilitate these wild lands swept by marine winds.
The estate now covers approximately 35 hectares, cultivated using organic farming methods since the early 2000s. The vines are planted on soils mixing decomposed granite, clay, and limestone, in a particularly preserved environment, surrounded by scrubland and constantly influenced by the Mediterranean.
Niellucciu, Vermentinu and profoundly Corsican wines
Domaine Giacometti mainly works with the great island grape varieties: Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Vermentinu, and Muscat Petit Grain. In the vineyard and in the cellar, the approach remains simple and respectful of the fruit, with vinifications that seek balance and sincerity rather than a display of power.
The estate's wines are distinguished by their natural freshness, their often saline character, and that very Mediterranean sensation combining dry herbs, warm stone, and mineral tension. The reds maintain energy despite the Corsican sun, while the whites strike a very fair balance between richness and liveliness.
